To my Father, about my father

By

Michael C. McCormick

Suddenly, it comes upon me, I don’t know when or why;

It’s just a feeling or a thought that brings a mournful sigh.

It hits me like the stomach flu or like an accident;

And I don’t know if it comes from hell or if its heaven sent*.

I might be driving, at the store, or taking out the trash;

Or, I could be cooking, washing, or checking the newscast.

They interrupt my busy life even when I least expect;

And against my will, these daydreams, force me to recollect!

Sometimes it’s just a simple thought like where he might be at;

Or, an urge to call him up on the telephone to chat.

But, just as quick reality returns to pierce my heart;

Saying, “He is gone and all my life we will be apart”!

And then a lump forms in my throat and tears roll down my face;

So immediately I turn to You and call upon Your grace!

For, I know, GOD, You love us more than my dad and I can;

And that’s a lot cuz we’ve loved each other since my life began.

Well, I guess since he’s my father he probably loved me first;

And continued, unconditionally, to love me at my worst.

I’m grateful that he did that cuz it helps me to believe;

That You are a great Father to me, but You will never leave!

End

*Footnote: Sometimes trials in our lives can hurt so bad it feels like it must be evil and meant to destroy us;

but GOD may actually mean it for our good and our healing.

For example, Grief is a painful process but it is actually a GOD-ordained means to heal us after a great loss.

      Jerome, it was written by my brother and pretty much expresses how all of us felt (feel) when my father had gone to Heaven. God bless you!!
