A few days ago, I wrote a post about reaching out to others during this holiday season if you are feeling alone, or grieving, or struggling in any way.
I am going to repeat myself in this post (which does not concern me at all), because I am now personally aware of how suddenly and unexpectedly a tragedy can hit.
Yesterday a close relative of a very dear, long-time family friend committed suicide. It was known that he was depressed and also drank too much alcohol, but no one ever expected this. He got into the car and drove off a cliff. And now his family plans a funeral rather than planning a Christmas dinner.
Again I will emphasize, I need for you to know you are not alone – not ever! I am right here for you; and I want you to reach out and make me aware of any difficult moments or days you are currently walking through. Please just leave a note here or a prayer request, or connect with me on my Facebook page, Weather Your Storm. I am also a member of prayer teams and will post your requests anonymously if you ask me to.
If you are struggling with depression, addiction, or any medical/mental health issue, please inform your doctors immediately. Reach out to the medical community, reach out to counselors or treatment centers who are professionally trained to help you! There is so much help available for you!
Remember also during this time of year to take extra special care of yourself. Practice all we have talked about – eat healthy meals, get plenty of sleep, exercise, take time to pray or meditate, and reach out to others and ask for help.
I will be home for the holidays, so will be checking this site and my Facebook page often. Let me know how you are doing – especially those of you grieving the loss of a loved one, or walking through a rough time right now.
If at any time you feel suicidal, I urge you to call and talk with a professional before you take any action toward harming yourself.
I have two phone numbers which I will make available to you — please use them if you need to!
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline — 1-800-273-8255 (a 24/7 line)
National Hopeline Network – 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433)
Please know that your life is worth living; suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Reach out and get the help you deserve.
I care. And I am here for you!
